Foundation (monument)
is an architecturally and spatially informed sculpture which considers the contrast between light and shadow, old and new. Constructed from three large panels, skewe and slanted to create an asymmetrical ‘totemic’ sculpture, its design incorporates layered lines of textured clear acrylic which mimic traditional leadlight decorative textured glass, encased in a bold dark framework.

This work is a response to the male dominated history of Light and Space movement, specifically reflecting on Dan Flavin’s monument for V. Tatlin fluorescent series. Now reincarnated, Foundation (monument) exists as a sculpture which harnesses the powers of light and texture to alter states of perception, conjure memory and immerse viewers in a moment in time.
