U-Bend Pillar, 2017
Nicholas Projects, Melbourne
Site-specific fluorescent light sculpture, 1.2mD x 3mH
U-Bend Pillar features an iteration of recent work developed while on residency at the NARS Foundation in New York City in 2016. Reminiscent of the neon lights synonymous with the city, the large-scale light installation echoes architectural styles and structures dispersed across NYC’s monumental buildings and skyscrapers. Describing the geometry of a column through bending circuits of light, ‘U-Bend Pillar’ brings the energy of the city to the room through a colossal sculptural extrusion. The work channels the artist’s experience of NYC and invites viewers to examine their own physical sensations in relation to the work.
